Escatec, R&D, EMS Escatec plugs global R&D as part of EMS work

MANHASSET, NY -- Escatec, a Swiss-born design and manufacturing house, has plans to increase its R&D activities from 30 to 200 employees and its turnover from $4 million to $40 million over the next five years.

“We have identified R&D as being the key differentiation for Escatec that sets it apart from other contract manufacturing companies,” explained Daniel Pfeifer, newly appointed head of the newly formed global R&D in Heerbrugg, Switzerland.

Escatec has been offering a contract R&D service for a number of years and the offering's proven success has led to the decision on the latest ramp up. Forty percent of the company’s revenues come from the industrial market using the company’s electronics and mechatronics expertise.

Pfeifer claimed that today's product prototype designs are for the most part not suitable for mass-production. Escatec aims to have an end-to-end service and offer that service to an increasingly wider range of customers.

Privately-held Escatec, founded in 1974, said the plan will accelerate its integrated product design and manufacturing service from initial idea all the way to volume production in the company’s Asian facilities in Panang, Malaysia.

"Global headquarters for the R&D operation will be in the Heerbrugg," said Pfeifer who added that the company "will be adding design centers in America, Asia and other European locations."

Gerhard Klauser, General Manager at Escatec Switzerland said the company’s service ensures customers own the IP that is developed for them: “It enables them to focus on what makes them different and unique.” Escatec, R&D, EMS Escatec plugs global R&D as part of EMS work
