Bluechiip’s prototype biobank tracking chips survive torture Electronics News

BLUECHIIP says it has successfully completed the final testing of a batch of prototype chips and assembled tags from STMicroelectronics.

STMicroelectronics is the manufacturing partner for Bluechiip, which is a local company that has developed a wireless tracking solution for the healthcare markets of biobanking and biorepositories.

A longer explanation of Bluechiip’s technology is available at Electronics News’ earlier coverage of the company. http://www.electronicsnews.com.au/news/next-generation-battery-less-wireless-tracking-app

Bluechiip tested the prototypes to verify the final process design and tag performance characteristics. These tags and chips were subjected to thermal cycling (taking the tags from -196°C to room temperature and back), continuous storage in liquid nitrogen (-196°C), gamma irradiation and process validation.

According to Bluechiip, the tests proves its technology is solid, and it will now move forward to commercialisation.

The MEMS-based tracking tags comprise of a MEMS-based chip which is assembled and attached to an antenna. Central to the bluechiip system is that the tags communicate with the company’s proprietary reader system and software.Bluechiip's prototype biobank tracking chips survive torture Electronics News
