Samsung, LG, Osram, LED, patent, ITC, semiconductor Samsung, LG fire back at Osram in LED war

LONDON – Samsung LED Co. Ltd. has gone to the U.S. International Trade Commission seeking an injunction against the sale of LED products made by Siemens' Osram subsidiaries. It has also filed a court case in Delaware alleging patent infringement by Osram, according to a Reuters report.

Fellow South Korean company LG Electronics Inc. has joined Samsung in countersuing Osram, Reuters said.

The moves come after Osram, a leading manufacturer of lighting and part of Siemens AG, said in June that it had it has filed patent infringement law suits against Samsung and LG in the United States and Germany and against LG in Japan. Osram also said it would file a suit against LG in China.

Samsung alleged that Osram infringes eight patents on LED technologies used in products ranging from automobiles and projectors to mobile phones and televisions, Reuters said.
